4: The Rapists Union

Somehow, I had missed watching the fourth
in this five film Hong Kong set of Raped by an Angel films. But never too
late to dive back into the cesspool. They are not related to one another
by anything other than the sordid theme of rape and the questionable taste
of Wong Jing who was the producer of all five and the director of this one.
Times have changed so much since the 1990s when these were made that I feel
slightly embarrassed to admit that I watched them. But they felt more mainstream
back then with well-known actors than they do now. These films probably could
not be made in Hong Kong today. They are sleazy and exploitive, but only
up to a point. There is some titillation, glimpses of nudity by the secondary
actresses, some non-PC comedy, a sense of the absurd, a pinch of tension
and for the rapist to have a bloody, deadly satisfying ending awaiting him.
In the first one, Chingmy Yau traps a man
who has raped her friend by performing a steamy strip tease; in the tepid
second one, policewoman Athena Chu and triad member Francis Ng track down
a serial rapist; the third has a nice cast with Alex Fong, Pinky Cheung and
Angie Cheong in which again a rapist is at large and in the fifth a group
of rape victims go after the rapist. They are all fairly mediocre and forgettable,
but they were part of the Hong Kong film scene of the 1990s.
This fourth one is darker and sleazier than
the first three. Wong Jing directing. Good taste is nowhere to be found.
Two rapists have escaped from jail and immediately get back to their evil
deeds. But another much more sophisticated rapist (CIA trained) enlists them
into his circle. I guess being a rapist is lonely business unless you can
share it with others. He is played by Ben Ng who was often the go to actor
for psychotics. He has a dungeon where he keeps women that he has kidnapped.
Only surprised that Lily Chung wasn't among them. He invites his two friends
to partake.
Nearby in a house of large windows and no
curtains is Suki Kwan who walks around in her short shorts and frolics in
the backyard with her three friends (Yeung Fan, Kingdom Yuen and Sherming
Yiu). She is engaged to Nick Cheung, but refusing him sex to the point that
he says his "penis is useless". He is also a pretty bad cop and his partner
is Athena Chu playing the same character as she did in the second film. When
Suki's friend goes missing, they visit Anthony Wong, a former rapist known
by the name Human Milk Drinking Doctor and is now working in a porno theater.
He tells them that he is improving his English by watching the films. "Oh
yes, oh no, I'm coming." He knows all about Ng and sets them on his trail.
A surprising amount of nudity and unpleasantness. It seems that Wong Jing
had decided the first three films were too mild and he adds a strong dose
of cretinous trash to the mix. Viewed
