A mid-budget Hong Kong supernatural tale
that makes little sense but has a few terrific scenes and a solid cast that
will appeal to Hong Kong film fans. A new thing I learned - to keep in mind
should I ever go back to Hong Kong - if a ghost has the same birthday as
you do, it enables them to possess you. That unfortunately happens to Alex
Fong and the ghost that possesses him is a killer who wants revenge. Lousy
Chao (Chung Fat) and his wife were murdered by others in his triad gang who
accuse him of switching drugs for garbage. I am not sure if nicknaming him
Lousy helped his mood. But when they kill him - for something he did not
do - he takes over the body of Fong and begins his revenge tour,
First up is Shing Fui-on who Fong/Lousy
finds taking a sauna - Shing does a fabulous acting job of throwing himself
around the room, finally burning his face on the embers. A small towel is
thrown over his face to be polite to the dead man. One might wonder why he
doesn't come back as a ghost too but that is for the Gods to answer. Fong
has a girlfriend (Julia Cheng Yim-lai) who has an uncle (Ku Feng) who just
happens to be a Taoist priest. I think every family in Hong Kong has one.
As soon as he sees Fong, he knows he is possessed but he is no Lam Ching-ying
and the ghost is too strong for him - revenge can do that. Next up is a great
killing scene with Chen Kuan-tai in a parking lot as he is bashed around
like a rag doll.
Still a few more to kill - Lam Wai has a
Buddhist monk and drug dealer come from Thailand. Played by Peter Chan Lung,
he has a few Buddhist tricks up his sleeve - so Lousy's dead ghost wife goes
to help him kill them. Between the killings it is a bit slow though they
do throw in two topless nude scenes from another female who is there for
that purpose. Enough to give the film a Cat III rating. Decent fun for the
most part and like I said a great Hong Kong cast.
