During the opening credits they play Shaft as
have probably millions of other kung-fu films. I think every film should
start off with some Shaft. Think how much better that would make films like
Pride and Prejudice or any Marvel film. It is probably the highlight of this
fairly forgettable Taiwanese kung fu film. It has a cast that only their
mothers would know. Perhaps I am digging too deep into these low-budget Taiwanese
films. But the title Iron-Fist Maiden had a certain appeal. Of course, as
it turns out there is no Iron-fisted Maiden. Lots of so-so kung-fu with wild
swings and a lot of bashing. It gives us a good ending though as a Samurai
takes on the Chinese hero on a bunch of logs in the water and then the hero
has to hold off a mining caboose from running over him with one hand while
holding a baby in the other as the mother lies by him and another woman crawls
towards him to kill him. That wasn't bad at all.
A quick summary.
Right after Shaft ends Sun Chia-lin finds
her father dead on a dirt road and of course swears vengeance. Her Master
tells her, maybe he deserved it. Comforting words. His killer is Chiang Pin,
a nice enough fellow who unknowingly comes to her rescue when about 20 guys
are going to beat her up. Not that she is doing badly on her own. There is
a map to a treasure that has been torn into two. Chiang wants it for the government
in Canton while the evil Lung Fei wants it for himself. So much so that he
sets up a honey trap with his own daughter Wong Gam-fung. Chiang takes her
into his home and knocks her up. "You told me to do everything I could to
get his part of the map". "Not get pregnant!"
Chiang gets captured and tortured and is
saved by Sun Chia-lin of all people. "I saved you so that I could kill you,
when you are healed". Which takes a long time because he is a father when
the bad guys come looking again. And then the good ending. A pretty bad version
up on YouTube. The lead actor looks like he eats a lot of sweets when not
working and has the charisma of a brick. The only actor I recognized is Cheng
Fu-hung because of his enormous girth and because I just saw him in Crisis
a few days ago. I may be all dubbed out for a while.
