Flirting
Director: Lee Tai-hang
Year: 1988
Rating: 6.5
A small moody almost
film noire styled movie in which a young lower class worker (Alex Man) in
Macao brings back a bride (Aoki Yuko) from Thailand and then begins to treat
her quite badly. An attraction grows between her and his best friend (Ng
Siu-gong) and the usual tragic complications ensue. It feels almost like
a three character play as most of the film plays out in a confined sweltering
Macao apartment. It’s slow moving and drags at times, but good performances
by all three characters make it worthwhile viewing. Very different from most
HK films in its pace and atmosphere.
