Those Were the Days
Director: Eric Tsang
Year: 1996
Rating: 7.5
Minnie (Loletta Lee)
is getting married and her three friends from childhood come over the night
before to reminisce. Most of the film thus is a flashback to their youth
(all obviously played by different actresses) with occasional reversions
back to the present. And it is just as well because their life as teenagers
is much more interesting and amusing than their fairly dull adult existence.
It's kind of a HK "My So Called Life" as
we see Minnie go through her teenage years - first lesbian flirtation, first
love, first bra, first kiss, first grope and of course first heart break.
All done in a very sweet amusing nostalgic way. It is a very enjoyable film
for this kind of thing with good performances from Eric Tsang as her father
and from the girl who plays Minnie. A UFO production.
