Jackie Chan - Inside the
Dragon
by Clyde Gentry III
Taylor Publishing Company - 1997
Paperback - 187 pages - $19
This is a pretty good easy-read bio of Jackie as
it traces his career from his early films to Mr. Nice Guy. It describes
the influence that the silent comedy stars like Buster Keaton and
Chaplin had on his mixture of action and comedy. It goes into some detail
about his collaborations with both Sammo and Yuen as well as his work with
director Stanley Tong.
Beyond simply recounting the films, Gentry makes
an attempt to describe what makes a Jackie Chan film different - the fight
choreography, the editing and humor and so on.
