While watching this, I could
not help but feel that this was an unofficial sequel to the great female
French secret agent, La Femme Nikita. Or at least a tribute. Sort of a what
happened to Nikita after the fade out. This is a compact fast moving geo
political spy thriller. French intelligence are just as big bastards as American
Intel. Everyone is expendable. Betrayals are expected and required.
In Raqqa, Syria Agent Zero is peering out
of a crack in her window as a woman in a burqa knocks on a door in a pattern
and delivers food. She soon copies the woman, but not to deliver food but
to kill everyone inside. She does with precision and coldness. A professional.
French Intel is watching both from above by satellite and the camera she
is wearing. The order is given, no witnesses, to kill everyone including
her to another man who blows the place up.
Seven years later and Agent Zero is now
Alma (Marine Vacth), retired from Intel and happily married to a Moroccan
policeman in Marrakesh. He is investigating the arms dealer, Koury, and at
an outdoor café, Koury's two sons shoot him. He survives in a coma
and she knows they will finish the job. Unless, she kills them all. Some
skills you never lose. There is some great location shooting in Marrakesh;
in the markets, on the rooftops and in a chase scene along the water. The
action was fine by me but a number of the reviews were annoyed by the shaky
hand held camera during those scenes. Didn't bother me. Felt right for this
film that wastes no time. In fact, my only real complaint is that at 84 minutes,
it takes too many shortcuts and doesn't spend much time developing the characters.
