In a recent review, I wrote that the action icons of the 1970s have never been replaced. The one exception to that may be Jason Statham who seems to make an action film every other week. They are like rabbits. The thing is though all of them are good; not great but quality action films that entertain. He gives the audience exactly what they want. Simplicity and vengeance. In truth, he usually only makes one or two films a year, but it feels like one is always being released. And that is fine by me. I have enjoyed them all. He is as tough and determined as those 70's icons were but with more charm and less physicality. He looks normal. But what makes him a favorite of mine is that he is hair deprived. All those icons had great hair, still do, but Statham just goes with mother nature.



If I was a movie producer and someone came to me with an idea where a lone man is on a cargo ship full of mercenaries and has to kill them all, I would say, you mean Die Hard on a ship. No thanks, its been done to death. But in this one, the sidekick is a female. Please leave. But Statham wants to do it. Ah. Ok, let's do it. That is basically what we get. But director Jean-François Richet (Plane, Assault on Precinct 13) does a solid job of keeping it going without any lulls. A kill every few minutes. And a few of the kills are well thought out with good choreography. Some of it will make you flinch.
