This isn't as bad as one might expect going in. A Blaxploitation kung-fu film directed by schlockmiester Al Adamson. Adamson directed such classics as Psycho A-Go-Go, Blood of Dracula's Castle, Satan's Sadists and Naughty Stewardesses. I can admit that I have seen none of those or most of his films. But I have seen his other Blaxploitation kung fu film produced three years after this - Black Samurai with Jim Kelly which is fairly bad and truly bizarre with a stuffed killer attack vulture, a midget with a bullwhip, a roomful of comatose snakes, two African bush people who come out of nowhere and a Black Magic Mamba Dance. This one has none of that weirdness and is a fairly low budget action film that is clunky as hell but is kind of fun.



I would love to know how it all came together. The two main actors are Hong Kong star Alan Tang and ex-football running back with the Eagles, Timothy Brown. Tang was a big star in HK and Taiwan primarily in melodramatic romances, a few with Brigitte Lin. Brown had been a top runner but after retiring in 1969 began acting and had a role as  Spearchucker Jones in the first season of M.A.S.H. But also of interest to Hong Kong film fans are a few others that I would guess Tang brought with him. In the first fight at the dock, you can spot Lam Ching-ying getting beat up by Tang. Lam also choreographed the action. As the villain's main tough guy is Peter Chan Lung and in the final fight there is Billy Chan and Mars. Good for them. See America. And get your ass kicked.



Tang sneaks into America to look for his brother who disappeared a few years before in China. The head of a drug syndicate, the great James Hong, sends his men to stop him. The why, we don't find out till later. Aldo Ray, is a corrupt cop with a totally hot girlfriend who swims naked, works for Hong and arrests Tang. But Tang and another prisoner, Brown, escape in a scene out of The Defiant Ones handcuffed together. Expect a lot of racial slurs from white folks. They become buddies of course and get into a lot of fights. Tang beats the crap out of everyone. Not a lot of this makes sense but the action isn't bad.
