For Sherlock Holmes
fans of all persuasions, this might be of some interest to you. Or not. I
didn't notice that it got much attention, but I stumbled upon it and thought
it was decent enough to get through the 8-episodes in season one. Season
two is apparently on its way. It isn't on the same level as Young Sherlock
if you saw that and certainly nowhere close to the Cumberbatch Sherlock Holmes
TV series, but it will do in a pinch if you are suffering from Holmes Withdrawal
Pains. Holmes is played by the fine actor, David Thewlis as a bit of an arrogant
prick. His good friend Watson and landlady Mrs. Hudson have been kidnapped
and he is told that if he interferes in a kidnapping, they will be killed.
Meanwhile, a young American woman shows
up claiming to be his daughter (Blu Hunt) and wanting his help in solving
her mother's murder. Apparently, Holmes had a little tryst some 20-years
previously with a visiting American in the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. Sherlock!
How could you! He doesn't believe her but hires her as a helper in the household
chores. And realizing that she is rather brilliant and knows martial arts,
begins to use her to investigate these crimes while he stays in the shadows.
With Moriarty in jail, it appears another crime syndicate is rising that
calls itself the Red Thread. Their crime is actually quite clever and entails
Holmes solving the robbery of the Bank of England. Set in Victorian times
with solid sets and Holmes in various disguises.
