One for the Money Film Review
One for the Money
Director:
Julie Ann Robinson
Year: 2012
Rating: 5.5
There was a day some years ago when this would
have been right up my alley. As mainstream as a Baby Ruth candy bar. Decent
cast, an ok plot, predictable in a good way and cuter than a Hello Kitty
doll. I mean they have Debbie Reynolds as the feisty grandmother who shoots
a turkey. That is on the table ready to be carved. Too many movies
under the bridge though to really enjoy this. It was ok - Katherine Heigl
is very easy to take for 90-minutes. Charming, pleasant and attractive and
this is her film. And even with a bunch of people being murdered, it needed
a pinch more of an edge. And fewer cute people. They just don't exist in
the real world. If you want to make a thriller, then leave out the cuteness.
Stephanie (Heigl) is down to her last dollar
and the rent is due. In desperation she takes a job as a bounty hunter for
a family friend. There is one big prize to find and collect. Morelli (Jason
O'Mara), an ex-cop who was arrested for killing someone in cold blood. Or
so they think. I mean, when was the last time a cop was arrested for shooting
someone. He also took Stephanie's virginity in high school and never called.
She then ran him over and broke his leg. Sounds even but she decides to bring
him in. Everyone tells her she is nuts - he is out of her league - stick
with the naked old men who expose themselves. But as she begins to dig in
order to track him down, it begins to look like he might be innocent. Directed
by Julie Ann Robinson and also with John Leguizamo and Daniel Sunjata.
