Revenge of the Zombies Film Review
Revenge of the Zombies

Ay ooh. Ay ooh.
Ay ooh. Should you ever need it, that is the call of the Zombies. No matter
what they are doing from digging a grave to resting in the earth, they will
come to take instructions. This lovable film from Monogram is a follow-up
to their 1941 King of the Zombies. Best is that Mantan Moreland returns with
it. The film has a surprising mix of black and white actors. Besides Mantan
there is also the creepy cook played by Madame Sul-Te-Wan, who was the first
black actress to sign a contract with a studio. Then there is the very cute
maid that Mantan has to make a play for. Sybil Lewis was a star in Race films.
Then of course, there were the zombies.
Two men (Robert Lowery and Mauritz Hugo)
go deep into the bayou after hearing that the sister (Veda Ann Borg) of one
of them has mysteriously passed away. Or has she? Her husband is played by
John Carradine, so you know something is up. Mantan is the driver and keeps
telling them that zombies are around, but no one will believe him. Till they
see the dead sister walking. Carradine being the good patriot he is in 1943
is building a zombie army. For the Nazis. I think some of them are still
around wearing red hats. A great ending. And Mantan is off to Harlem with
the girl! 60 minutes.
