Sunburn Film Review

A nice easy going crime film that is pretty stress-free thanks to the lovable cast of Charles Grodin, Farrah Fawcett and Art Carney. Who could not enjoy watching this threesome interact. Grodin is admittedly always pretty much the same - so lowkey that you are surprised he is still visible. But he always makes me laugh. And Art Carney - we have so much affection for him from the Honeymooners from over 60 years ago and a mere 39 episodes. People much younger than I am probably have no sense what a sensation Farrah Fawcett was for about five years during the run of Charlie's Angels. That and the pin-up that adorned most teenage boy's bedroom walls. While this was being shot in Mexico, she had to be protected with bodyguards from the masses of fans trying to see her. Grodin and Carney had no such problem. She was both a sex symbol but also the girl next door type - if you were really lucky. I will admit that she did nothing for me - the big hair and big teeth - but she is very charming here. Adorable really.

In Acapulco an older wealthy man crashes his car through a bar and it explodes. The police put it down as an accident. He has an insurance policy for $5 million dollar and the insurance company (William Daniels, Keenan Wynn) like all insurance companies want to get out of paying it. So, they hire Jake (Grodin) to investigate. His man down there is Marcus (Carney), a rumpled P.I. who knows the lay of the land and all the crooks. Jake wants to go in quiet and undercover and so he has an agency send him a female to pretend to be his wife. Ellie. Some wife. Farrah Fawcett. "Don't worry I never mix business with getting involved". Sure. How long I wonder will that last. The big hair and teeth are looking better by the minute. As he digs into it, he has to deflect the advances of a married woman (Joan Collins) and the attempts to kill him. Ellie gets into the act as well bugging phones, conking bad guys over the head, nearly getting killed. An enjoyable not very challenging romp.
