Istanbul Express

Director: Richard Irving
Year:  1968
Rating: 6.0

Within one minute of watching this and even before the opening credits are over, you know this has to be a TV movie. The later fade-outs every 15 minutes or so confirm this. It just has that TV movie look to it but it is certainly more ambitious than most with a cast that won't blow your socks off but was pretty well known back in the 60's. Much of it takes place on a train ala The Oriental Express that goes from Paris to Istanbul with a few stops on the way. Gene Barry from Bat Masterson fame is an undercover American agent though it seems everyone and their mother knows this and he is going to Istanbul on a mission. Lots of people are out to stop this in particular the lovely Senta Berger, who is a Russian agent. On the train as head of security is John Saxon with what I think was a French accent who is more than he seems. It rolls along fairly well though Barry seems to not be the brightest agent around and as suave as he, he is constantly falling into obvious traps. Still always nice to visit Istanbul though I have my doubts if Barry and crew did.
