About 10 years ago I think it was I watched Dr.
Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine (1965). It was so dreadfully awful that it
took me all this time to work up the courage to watch the sequel. I should
have waited another 10 years. By then senility might have made this palatable
as I drooled over all the bikini clad women. But I doubt it. This is like
a really bad 90 minute Benny Hill skit that is so campy and cheesy and unfunny
that it almost felt as if that was the intention. This is a spy spoof of
sorts in which an embarrassingly silly Vincent Price as Dr. Goldfoot has
created an army of female bots that can explode and assassinate targets.
In this case NATO Generals. The plan is of course to take over the world.
In the first film he was opposed by two pop stars of the period - Frankie
Avalon and Dwayne "Dobie Gillis" Hickman - but this time it is pop star Fabian
who for the life of me I can't remember why he was a pop star. Certainly
not for his acting. On his side is the lovely Laura Antonelli.
Most shocking of all is of course the director. Bava. Mario Bava. Yes that
Mario Bava. The director of Black Sunday, Black Sabbath, Bay of Blood and
a number of other films that are considered classics in the horror genre.
I suppose in a way this too is a horror film. I am sure there is a story
behind his directing this - money would be my wild guess.
